FLEDGLINGFEST ACTIVITIES!
Saturday & Sunday, April 23-24, 2022

Welcome! Our FledglingFest events are designed specifically for kiddos (ages 6 & older) and their grown-ups! You can take part in one or more of the following events as part of your nature adventure and introduction to the world and wonders of nature.
PLEASE NOTE: You must be registered in order to be admitted on the FledglingFest field trips. Only registered children (ages 6 & older) and adults can participate.
For the FREE Birds of Prey Raptor Shows, ALL are welcome to attend regardless of age and you do not have to be registered.
If you’d like to register for a FledglingFest event in person, you can do so on-site during the following hours:
Wednesday, April 20, 4:00pm-6:00pm
Thursday, April 21, 6:00am-5:30pm
Friday, April 22, 5:15am-6:30pm
Saturday, April 23, 5:00am-6:30pm
Sunday, April 24, 7:00am-8:00am (The Sunday FledglingFest field trip begins at 9:00am)
Our registration desk will be located at the Moody Gardens Hotel in the lobby of the Frances Anne Moody Ballroom.
FledglingFest Dolphins & Birds by Boat
Date: Saturday, April 23
Time: 10:00am – 11:00am
Cost: $15
What better way to kick off your Saturday adventure than on a boat on the FledglingFest Dolphins & Birds by Boat! Our expert leaders will be onboard to help you spot and identify frolicking dolphins and our feathered friends.
All FledglingFest activities are geared for ages 6 and up and children must be accompanied by an adult. Children must be at least six years old in order to participate. All participants must be registered prior to reporting to board the boat.
Driving and parking directions will be emailed prior to the field trip.

FledglingFest Goes to the Moody Gardens Rainforest!
Date: Saturday, April 23
Time: 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Cost: $10
Take a tour of the Rainforest with one of the Moody Garden’s biologists as you explore a variety of birds from rainforest regions of the world. You will learn all about bird biology and adaptations in a fun, interactive program. The tour will last approximately 45 minutes.
All FledglingFest activities are geared for ages 6 and up and children must be accompanied by an adult. Children must be at least six years old in order to participate. Directions to the meeting site will be emailed prior to the field trip.

FledglingFest Birding Field Trip by Bus
Date: Saturday, April 23
Time: 2:00pm – 5:00pm
Cost: $10
Birding field trip for kiddos and their grown-ups! On this outing, participants will learn the basics of doing a bird survey such as Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count or one of the several monthly bird counts in the Galveston/Houston Area. In addition to learning to identify different species of birds, participants will learn techniques for counting and estimating the number of birds in various-sized flocks. The grand finale of this event will be a “rehearsal” of the annual Great Texas Birding Classic. Birding sites will depend on bird sightings on earlier FeatherFest field trips.
All FledglingFest activities are geared for ages 6 and up and children must be accompanied by an adult. Children must be at least six years old in order to participate. Directions to the meeting site will be emailed prior to the field trip. All participants must be registered prior to boarding the bus.

FledglingFest: Exploring the Outdoors with Sibley O’Haver & Her Dad
Date: Sunday, April 24
Time: 9:00am – 11:00am
Cost: $10
Explore nature and looking for birds with Sibley O’Haver and her dad Kyle at Galveston Island State Park. This is an adventure for kiddos and their grown ups. The focus is on a great outdoor adventure but we might as well look at some birds while we are doing it! Kyle will talk to the adults about positive ways to reinforce nature exploration and birding while Sibley points out all the cool things we find. Sibley and Kyle like to take sunflower seeds and gummy worms when birding so if you have your own favorite treat, bring it along or they will be more than happy to share theirs.
All FledglingFest activities are geared for ages 6 and up and children must be accompanied by an adult. Children must be at least six years old in order to participate. All participants must be registered PRIOR to reporting to Galveston Island State Park. Directions to the meeting site will be emailed prior to the field trip.

FREE FledglingFest Birds of Prey Raptor Show
Price: FREE (no need to register)
When: Friday, April 22, 1:30pm and Saturday, April 23, 10:00am and 1:00pm
Where: Cafe in the Park Patio at the Moody Gardens Hotel

Want to see even more birds? Everyone is invited to come see amazing live birds of prey soaring right above you in all their majesty at festival headquarters.
Kids and their grown-ups will be enthralled by this exciting, free-flight presentation of raptors demonstrating their hunting styles. Learn about the natural history of these incredible birds and their unique traits and abilities. The show includes hawks, owls, falcons, vultures and other raptors!
The raptors in this program are trained and cared for by Kevin Gaines and the Sky Kings Falconry team, which are dedicated to education and wildlife preservation. Click here to learn more about Sky Kings Falconry.
